Smokers Welcome List

Commissar Luura Miller and The Dallas City Cabal~ 1/27/03

Commissar Laura Miller, the duly elected Nanny of the Socialist City State of Dallas, whose political power was built on broken promises to the Police and Firefighters' Unions, assaulted the private property rights of every businessman in the city of Dallas. In a move reminiscent of 1930s Nazi Germany, or 1990s Red China, the Dallas City Council, led by an Out of Control Mayor, decided that the "Possible" health risks of second hand smoke outweigh the legitimate right of Restaurant Owners, Hotel Owners, Beauty Shop Owners and Bingo Parlor operators to determine their own Smoking policies.

The fact that the Restaurant Owners Association objected strenuously to this ordinance, because it will negatively affect their bottom line, did not deter Mayor Miller and her cabal of Liberal Nannies. Mayor Miller stated she was unaware of any study that showed a negative impact from such a ban, in spite of the fact that there are numerous studies that show a 30 to 40 percent decline in business, in other cities, following the passage of the same type of ban. Perhaps the Mayor was too "BUSY" to actually research the subject before she rammed the legislation through the City Council.

Two questions leap to my mind. Since Mayor Miller and the council did not ban smoking in bars and bowling alleys are we to assume the lives of their customers are not as important?

Are we also to assume Since Mayor Miller and the Council choose not to ban the SALE Of tobacco in the city of Dallas that the Sales Tax revenue generated by the sale of this "verboten" product are also more important than the lives she has decided to protect?

Let me state, for the record, that if a Restaurant owner, or any other business owner, decided to ban smoking on HIS property, I don't have a problem with his decision. I can, as a smoker, either comply with his decision or take my business to someone else. I don't, for one moment, think that smokers have the right to demand a smoking section, the question is entirely the decision of the business owner.

We, as American citizens, have many rights but they do not include the right to infringe on the property rights of others. IF you enter my home be prepared to smell smoke, if you find the odor objectionable ---- DON'T VISIT ME. If I enter your home and you don't smoke, then I will respect your rights and not smoke.

Many people, right now, are applauding the usurpation of property rights by Mayor Miller. They are saying it is "For Our Own Good." Let me ask you, will you feel the same when Commissar Miller and her ruling Cabal decide to ban SUVs because they are unsafe? How about when they decide that, because of all the injuries, that football or baseball should be banned. Should the citizens of Dallas expect Mayor Miller, or one of her minions, to be checking their cabinets to ensure that they are eating properly? At what point do we stand up and object to this growing government nannyhood?

For Me, we have reached that point. So long as the ban is in effect and Laura Miller is the Mayor of Dallas, I will spend not one cent within the City Limits of Dallas. I will contribute no Sales tax dollars to Dallas, and I strongly urge everyone else to also boycott Dallas businesses.

IF you are in charge of selecting a site for your convention, remember there is NO SMOKING in Dallas Hotels, Go to Ft Worth. If you want to go out to a nice dinner, visit Mesquite or some other suburban city that still respects the property rights of its citizens. Need new clothes -- Town East Mall in Mesquite or one of the other suburban malls would love your business. BOYCOTT DALLAS NOW!!!

God Bless America
